This chandelier, circa 1935, was part of Markel’s "8800 series". This chandelier was Model 8846, which was top of the line for this 8800 series--for a lower ceiling fixture. Their 1930’s catalog says it has a spread of 20”.

Markel was one of the biggest companies working in the Great Depression and had locations in America, Canada, and Australia. They made a lot of the antique slip shade fixtures that are sometimes found in the antique shops today. They were a quality company.

Old Gold finish over a cast iron cast body; the finish is original and has just the tiniest touch of bronze color in it. The finish has been cleaned up “a mite“, and is simply beautiful to the max.

Wonderful condition. The shades are simply a treat and in remarkable condition. Probably made by Consolidated Glass or another quality glass house.
